They don’t lovingly call For A Reason ‘Frank the Tank’ for no reason…he’s built like one! 

A millionaire racehorse and 1:49.4 tough speed machine, For A Reason is bred to be the champion he was on the racetrack: his grand-dam, by the immortal Lordship, not only won, but produced 11 winners of a combined 138 races, with five inside 2:00.

Left For Me, the dam of For A Reason, won 10 races, with 20 placings, and took a 1:59 career best.

But it is at stud that Left For Me has further excelled; the mare is by Fake Left, one of the greatest sires and ‘Kings of Queens’ to stand at stud in Australasia.

Left For Me is a broodmare gem: her nine foals of racing age are all winners, with five running times under 1:56.0 and all inside 2:00, with combined earnings on the cusp of $1.65million. Her progeny average 10 wins and over $180,000 in prizemoney.

The choice of Art Major over a Fake Left mare is a winning one, with For A Reason the ‘Poster Boy’ for this breeding ‘cross'. Others bred on the cross include Philadelphia Man, All Eyes On Us, Admiral Bronski, Major Occasion and Hughie Green.  

 

For A Reason raced in Group company his entire career; from winning the Chokin Championship at two, capturing four Derbys at three including the Group 1 NSW and Queensland events, then to retiring prematurely after competing in the Chariots Of Fire with a bone chip after qualifying by winning the Paleface Adios Sprint.

His first year at Stud in 2011 saw him serve 45 mares which had 33 live foals (73% served to live foal). Of the 33 live foals there have been 26 starters (79% starter/foals) and 18 individual winners (55% winners/starters). The crop includes three Group winners - Conviction (Group 1 & Group 3), Taylors Reason (Group 2) and Geldof (Group 3).

He remarkably won the NSW Sire of the Year in 2017/18 from this one foaling crop.

 

When For A Reason retturned to the racetrack after his bone chip had recovered he defied the odds and won the 2013 Group 1 Victoria Cup; six year old horses generally don’t do that…but ‘Frank the Tank’ did!

At seven, it was much the same story, with wins in the Group 1 Garrards Queensland Pacing Championship, Group 2 Shirley Turnbull Memorial and the Group 3 Goulburn Cup, bringing his earnings past a stunning $1.1million.

Versatility, toughness and lightning speed were trademarks of this beautiful-natured racehorse, with those traits now being passed on to his colts and fillies alike.

For A Reason is also eligible for the NSW True Blue Bonus. This bonus is restricted to broodmares inseminated in NSW, where the progeny is foaled in NSW and notified to HRNSW.  The bonus is a $3,000 cash Bonus payable to the owner of the horse for its first 2YO or 3YO win.

Regardless of where your broodmare is inseminated or where the foal is born, the progeny of For A Reason will be eligible for the NSW Breeders Challenge.

His progeny is also eligible for all other state breeding schemes VicBred, QBred, TASBred, WestBred and the Southern Cross Series (if your mare is inseminated and the foal is born in the same state).
