His outstanding four-year-old season saw him capture the prestigious Group 1 Chariots of Fire in a blistering 1:48.9, claim the Group 2 Paleface Adios Stakes, record a career-best 1:48.6 mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle and finish a gallant second behind champion King Of Swing in the $1 million Miracle Mile. It was a campaign that confirmed he belonged among Australia’s elite, combining exceptional speed with the toughness and consistency required to perform on harness racing’s biggest stage.
If there was one chapter that truly defined his racing career, it was his unforgettable 2021 Inter Dominion Championship campaign. Across one of harness racing’s toughest series, Expensive Ego produced an extraordinary body of work, completing a clean sweep of all three qualifying heats over 1730 metres, 2030 metres and 2400 metres. He broke the Bathurst track record with a brilliant 1:50.6 performance before producing one of the defining performances of the series at Newcastle, sitting three-wide for the majority of the 2030-metre journey and still proving too strong for his rivals. He then crossed the line first in the gruelling 3009-metre Inter Dominion Final, capping a campaign that showcased the speed, versatility and toughness that defined his career.
