The emergence of a new sire is always closely followed, but when that sire is a three-time Miracle Mile champion, interest is immediate.
That interest quickly translated into action, with King Of Swing achieving the rare feat of serving four consecutive full books of mares at the very beginning of his stud career – a level of sustained demand rarely seen for such a young sire.
At Gore Raceway in New Zealand today, that early support was quickly justified.
His son Fanfare (NZ), a 2023 colt out of Ovaride (NZ), delivered an impressive victory in the Macca Lodge NZ Kindergarten Stakes Prelude, becoming King Of Swing’s first sired race winner and providing the first meaningful raceday validation of his sire career.
Fanfare’s performance carried the hallmarks of a quality juvenile, showing professionalism and strength through to the line. He had already produced two impressive second placings leading into this run, suggesting a win was imminent.
Trainer Bob Butt has already made his view clear:
“He is our best 2YO in the stable… we absolutely love him, he has such a great attitude.”
That blend of ability and attitude is something increasingly noted by leading trainers with King Of Swing’s progeny.

Fanfare is out of Ovaride (Mach Three – Top Gear) and it is her record in the breeding barn that sits at the heart of this result. She has developed into a genuinely high-class producer, consistently delivering multiple winners and, importantly, a horse of elite level in Minstrel (Rocknroll Hanover) – a Group 1 WA Pacing Cup winner and a two million dollar earner.
That alone places Ovaride in a different category. Few mares can point to producing a horse of Minstrel’s calibre, and it establishes her not just as a reliable producer, but as a mare capable of throwing top-end talent.
Beyond Minstrel, she has also produced Rollova (A Rocknroll Dance), an 11-time winner across New Zealand and Australia, along with The Achiever (Bettor’s Delight) and Over The Top (Sweet Lou), reinforcing a profile built on consistency, durability, and repeatable success. Fanfare now adds to that record, further strengthening her status as a mare that continues to deliver.
Critically, Minstrel provides more than just pedigree depth – he provides a blueprint.
As a son of Rocknroll Hanover, his success highlights a cross that has already proven highly effective with Ovaride. In returning to that same sire line through King Of Swing – the richest and most decorated son of Rocknroll Hanover – breeders have not taken a gamble, but rather doubled down on a proven genetic pattern.
