Momentum Builds at Cobbitty Equine Farm After a Standout Breeding Season

As the dust begins to settle on another busy breeding season, the industry quickly turns its focus toward the yearling sales, weaning foals and watching the early two-year-olds step out for the first time.

At Cobbitty Equine Farm, the 2025/26 season was one of our best yet, with strong support across our stallion line-up. Breeders continued to show great confidence in our stallions; the farm collectively served over 830 mares across Australia and New Zealand.

A number of our stallions are still young, emerging sires – horses in which we have placed enormous faith as we build the future of the farm. The support shown by breeders in these young sires has been incredibly encouraging and reinforces the shared belief that their best years are yet to come.

More importantly, the season reinforced three things we value most: unwavering breeder support and communication, strong fertility results and the continued building of our brand and reputation across our stallion line-up.

What follows is a reflection on the season just passed and the progress surrounding each stallion on our Cobbitty Equine Farm roster.

Perfect Sting

One of the most exciting additions to our roster last season was Perfect Sting, who made a tremendous start to his Australian stud career. Boasting an elite pedigree – sired by world champion Always B Miki and out of a dam sired by Bettors Delight – his bloodlines alone have created enormous interest among breeders.

Standing via frozen semen in his debut season in Australia, Perfect Sting impressed breeders and veterinarians alike with the quality and reliability of his semen throughout the breeding season. The stallion covered a strong book of mares and achieved an early positive conception rate of over 80%, an excellent result for a first-season sire operating under a frozen semen program that strongly reinforces his fertility.

The excitement around Perfect Sting is only just beginning, with his first Australian crop of foals due later this year. Following the outstanding two-year-old success he has already achieved in the Northern Hemisphere, we are eager to see his influence continue to grow here in Australia and look forward to welcoming him back for the upcoming season.

For A Reason

For A Reason, the stallion that helped launch our Cobbitty Equine Farm operation nearly a decade ago, continues to prove his value year after year and remains a cornerstone of our roster.

Often described as one of the best value-for-money sires available, For A Reason once again enjoyed tremendous support from breeders this season. In the breeding shed he delivered a standout result with a remarkable 94% early pregnancy rate, reinforcing his reputation as one of the most reliable stallions available to breeders. As many breeders and veterinarians will tell you, he is a stallion that simply gets the job done, consistently and efficiently. As recently retired stud master and dear friend Tony Dumesny of Clarinda Park would often say, he could “place the semen box under a mare’s nose and she would go in foal.”

On the ground and on the track, his progeny continue to make their presence felt. Known for their strength, toughness and outstanding type, they consistently present as powerful individuals with plenty of substance, a trait that has earned the stallion the well-known nickname “Frank The Tank.”

Nearly a decade on from helping establish the operation, For A Reason continues to do exactly what he has always done: deliver results for breeders. His yearling sale results continue to be outstanding, with money returning over ten times his service fee.

Bettor’s Wish

Another stallion to make a major impact this season was Bettor’s Wish, whose first Australian crop wasted no time announcing themselves on the racetrack.

In his debut Australian season as a sire, Bettor’s Wish finished as Australia’s leading first-crop sire by earnings for 2025, an outstanding achievement that immediately placed him among the most exciting young stallions in the country.

Leading the charge was the exceptional filly Wishing Belle, who dominated the major two-year-old races in Western Australia and capped her season with victory in the Group 1 Westbred Classic Final. Her campaign, which included wins in the Gold Bracelet, Diamond Classic Final and Champagne Classic, saw her crowned Australian Two-Year-Old Filly of the Year for 2025, a huge feat.

Bettor’s Wish was offered via frozen semen with a limited book of mares and delivered excellent results in the breeding shed, recording an outstanding 88% conception rate at 14 days – a particularly impressive result. We look forward to building on that success and increasing his book in the upcoming season.

King Of Swing

It is rare for a fourth-season stallion to continue receiving the level of breeder support that King Of Swing has received, making the confidence shown in him this season particularly significant.

The three-time Miracle Mile champion served the largest book of his career and attracted strong support in New Zealand, demonstrating breeders’ growing confidence in the stallion across both countries.

King Of Swing has served a full book of mares four year in a row, a clear reflection of the belief breeders continue to place in the home-grown champion. Breeders and trainers note their natural ability and excellent attitudes and gait, qualities that make them a pleasure to work with.

He also recorded a 90% conception rate this season, further highlighting his consistency and fertility.

King Of Swing sired his first winner last week in New Zealand, with Fanfare, trained by Bob Butt, showing speed and toughness to get the job done. Trainer Bob Butt has already made his view clear:

“He is our best 2YO in the stable… we absolutely love him, he has such a great attitude.”

With continued breeder support and promising young stock emerging, confidence remains high in King Of Swing as we look toward the upcoming breeding season.

Huntsville

Huntsville continued to receive strong backing from breeders this season across both Australia and, for the first time, New Zealand.

Support from leading breeders highlights the continued confidence major operations have in the stallion.

His progeny are already performing well on the racetrack, and we believe the best is yet to come. Huntsville has already established himself as a leading juvenile sire in the Northern Hemisphere, producing top-level performers and now having his own sons standing at stud, which further underlines his elite credentials.

Huntsville is leading the two-year-old brigade this season in Australia. This is only his second crop of race-age horses, and the first crop bred since he joined us at Cobbitty Equine Farm. He recently dominated the Bathurst Gold Crown Series, winning both the colts & geldings and fillies divisions, and sired both Group One two-year-old feature winners. The standout win of the night was Huntsville’s filly Birdsong, who dominated her rivals, bringing her racing performance to four starts for four wins, with winning margins of 23.1 and 17.3 meters.

Standing via frozen semen, the stallion again delivered very encouraging fertility results this season, achieving a 79% early pregnancy rate in Australia, a strong result that further reinforces his reliability in the breeding shed.

With strong racetrack performances already achieved, Huntsville’s book is already filling fast for the upcoming breeding season. Breeders better be quick to secure their mares.

Confederate

The 2025/26 season marked Confederate’s second season Down Under, and the anticipation surrounding the stallion grew as his first foals began arriving. As the most exciting son of champion sire Sweet Lou, Confederate appears to be making waves.

Breeders have been extremely impressed with his progeny, frequently describing them as athletic, racy individuals very much in the mould of their sire. The strong book of mares this season reflects the confidence breeders and trainers have in the stallion and his progeny, with a significant group of quality mares sent to him again by a number of major breeding operations.

Across Australia and New Zealand combined, the stallion achieved an excellent overall pregnancy rate of 85%, further highlighting the confidence breeders have shown in this exciting young sire, with many breeders even adding additional mares to his book throughout the season.

With his first foals already turning heads and such strong breeder support behind him, there is genuine excitement around what Confederate’s future crops may go on to achieve on the racetrack, with continued confidence in this young sire and bookings already proving strong for the upcoming season.

Cannibal

Cannibal once again demonstrated why he is regarded as a highly reliable and fertile stallion in the breeding shed and received another strong book for the season.

The stallion produced another excellent set of fertility results this season, recording an 88% early pregnancy rate, further reinforcing the consistency breeders have come to expect from him.

Excitement around Cannibal has grown even further following the arrival of his first crop of foals Down Under. Word quickly spread among breeders about the quality of his progeny, with many commenting on their strength, substance and powerful “tank-like” builds.

Bookings quickly followed as breeders who saw the foals wanted to be part of the stallion’s future.

From such an exceptionally well-bred stallion, often described as being bred like royalty, there is great anticipation to watch these foals grow and step out at the yearling sales early next year, with Cannibal himself not only a striking individual, but also possessing a sought-after temperament, a trait he is already showing signs of passing on to his progeny. We look forward to another year ahead with this son of Sweet Lou.

Cobbitty Equine Classic

Another exciting development for our farm and the wider industry is the upcoming Cobbitty Equine Classic, an exclusive race series and one of its kind within Australasia. As the only race series of its kind in Australia, it is fundamental to our goals at Cobbitty Equine Farm.

As preparations continue for the inaugural running of the Ultra Air Cobbitty Equine Classic $200,000 race series later in the season, anticipation is steadily building. Already we are seeing a number of very promising two-year-olds trialling and beginning their racing journeys, many of whom will be eligible for the series.

Importantly, the foals bred during this past breeding season will be eligible for Series 4 of the Cobbitty Equine Classic in 2029, giving breeders an exciting long-term incentive when choosing to breed to our Cobbitty Equine Farm stallions. Nominations will open in May this year, with a race date to be announced very soon.

The concept behind the Cobbitty Equine Classic is simple: to create exciting opportunities for owners, breeders and trainers while showcasing the quality of horses produced from our Cobbitty Equine Farm stallion roster.
