    Meadowlands Pace

    Overview

The World’s Fastest Three-Year-Old Pacer of all time…

Confederate has proven to be a remarkable talent on the racetrack, showcasing his exceptional speed and determination with every stride.

Bred, born, raced and owned by Diamond Creek, the Richest and Fastest Son of Sweet Lou has certainly made a name for himself. With Geothermal as his dam, Confederate has inherited a winning pedigree that has led to an outstanding record of eighteen victories from twenty-two lifetime race starts. His total earnings of $2,077,554 only further solidify his status as a standout performer in the world of harness racing.

At the age of two, he achieved a remarkable feat by sweeping the Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship Series before winning his Breeders Crown elimination, finishing the year a near second in the final.

At the age of three, he triumphed in thirteen out of fifteen starts for the season, with eleven of those victories happening consecutively. It was a remarkable season for Confederate as he claimed victories in the most prestigious races such as the Meadowlands Pace, Cane Pace, Max Hempt Memorial, North American Cup eliminations, Bluegrass Series, Tattersalls Pace, Matron Stakes, and the Breeders Crown. He set a new world record for a three-year-old pacing colt by clocking 1:46.1 at The Red Mile during a KYSS leg and became the fastest three-year-old harness racing pacer of all time.

Confederate achieved top rankings across all leaderboards for three-year-old pacers in the United States during the 2023 season. Additionally, Confederate emerged as the leading performer of earnings among all aged horses and boasts the title of the fastest horse of 2023, recording his impressive time of 1:46.1.

Confederate has been massively supported in the Northern Hemisphere, boasting a full and closed book for his inaugural season at Stud.

He’s so much fun to drive. In this era, you don’t see horses consistently come from off the pace and beat their competition week in and week out, and he’s done it his whole career. In this day and age, especially in the 3-year-old group, you’ve got to be aggressive, be up close. He’s been able to not leave the gate too much and still win races. I think that’s cool.”

      The Complete Racehorse

Some horses win feature races. Some become champions.

      Confederate rewrote the record books.

From just 22 lifetime starts, Confederate won 18 races, earned US$2,077,554, and established himself as one of the greatest three-year-old pacers of the modern era. His breathtaking combination of speed, power and professionalism saw him dominate North America’s biggest races throughout 2023 before being crowned the sport’s highest honour – Horse of the Year.

His defining performance came at The Red Mile, where he stopped the clock in an astonishing 1:46.1, breaking the world record for a three-year-old pacer and becoming the fastest horse ever in his division. It wasn’t simply a fast mile – it was a performance that etched his name alongside the greatest pacers in harness racing history.

But Confederate was far more than a horse capable of one spectacular performance.

Week after week he proved himself against the very best, capturing the Meadowlands Pace, Cane Pace, Max C. Hempt Memorial, Kentucky Championship Final, Bluegrass Stakes, Tattersalls Pace, Breeders Crown and Matron Stakes – a resume few racehorses can rival.

What made Confederate truly exceptional was how he won.

      He could lead.
      He could stalk.
      He could race first-over.
He could unleash a devastating finishing sprint.

Whether on a lightning-fast track or through wet, sloppy conditions, Confederate possessed the rare ability to adapt, overpower his rivals and produce elite performances wherever and whenever it mattered most.

His remarkable season earned unanimous recognition as the 2023 Dan Patch Three-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year, 2023 Pacer of the Year, and ultimately 2023 Horse of the Year – the highest individual honour in North American harness racing.

Today, breeders have the opportunity to access a stallion whose credentials are almost impossible to replicate:

      •  2023 Horse of the Year
      •  2023 Pacer of the Year
      •  Dan Patch 3YO Colt of the Year
      •  World Record Holder – 1:46.1
      •  US$2,077,554 in earnings
      •  18 wins from just 22 starts
      •  Winner of eight of North America’s biggest Grand Circuit races

World-record speed. Championship class. A race record that speaks for itself.

      Pedigree

Pedigree Power: Generations of Class Behind Confederate

Confederate brings more than just race-day brilliance to the breeding barn, he offers one of the most powerful pedigrees in modern harness racing. Sired by the champion Sweet Lou and out of a maternal line stacked with Grand Circuit winners and Hall of Fame broodmares, Confederate represents the perfect balance of speed, substance and proven production.

Sweet Lou: Speed, Class & the Perfect Outcross

Confederate is by Sweet Lou p,1:47f ($3.4M+), one of the fastest and most versatile pacers of his generation. Sweet Lou set multiple world records and earned the title of Pacer of the Year. As a sire, he’s known for passing on precocious speed, natural gait, and toughness – qualities that made Confederate a world champion and 2023 U.S. Horse of the Year. Sweet Lou’s bloodlines are free of Cam Fella and Direct Scooter, giving Confederate unmatched versatility as a modern outcross stallion.

      Geothermal: Young Mare, Big Impact

Confederate’s dam, Geothermal (by A Rocknroll Dance), made an instant mark in the breeding shed by producing a world champion in her very first foal. Though unraced, Geothermal’s pedigree tells the full story – she’s a daughter of the elite mare Western Montana and a half-sister to some of the best pacers of the past decade, including Pure Country and Charleston. With Confederate already cementing her status as a proven producer, Geothermal now carries the torch for one of North America’s most respected female families.

Western Montana: A Broodmare Hall of Famer

The second dam, Western Montana p,3,1:52.1f ($175,000+), is the cornerstone of Confederate’s maternal strength. A Hall of Fame broodmare, Western Montana has produced over $4.2 million in earnings from her foals, including:

      • Pure Country (p,4,1:48, $2.4M+) – Three-time Dan Patch Award winner, and one of the most accomplished pacing mares of the modern era.

      • Charleston (p,3,1:49.4f, $775,000+) – Brilliant stakes filly with sub-1:50 speed and a Grand Circuit campaign.

      • Grand Teton (p,3,1:48.1, $564,000+) – Ultra-fast colt who competed with the best at age three.

Every racing-age foal from Western Montana has made it to the track – a rare and valuable trait. She’s a 100% producer whose foals combine speed, toughness, and heart, exactly the qualities that breeders value most.

Incredible Margie: Foundation Mare of Champions

Confederate’s third dam, Incredible Margie, is a Hall of Fame broodmare and the source of this family’s enduring strength. She’s the dam of millionaire performers like Allamerican Ingot and Allamerican Inca, and her influence runs deep through the generations. Her connection to the famed U6 female line, the same tribe as Western Hanover – reinforces the depth and durability behind this maternal powerhouse.

Generations That Deliver — On the Track and in the Barn

From Hall of Fame mares to million-dollar performers, Confederate’s female family is as consistent as it is elite. This is a pedigree that breeds on, delivering not just top-level racehorses but also next-generation producers. With Confederate, breeders gain access to a proven maternal line that offers world-class performance, production, and prepotency.

Backed by brilliance on the racetrack and anchored by one of the most reliable dam lines in the breed, Confederate stands as a stallion of genuine depth, class and long-term value.

      Ultimate Crosses

Confederate’s Ultimate Crosses: The Power of a Perfect Outcross

Confederate (Sweet Lou – Geothermal by A Rocknroll Dance) brings together world-class performance and exceptional breeding versatility. A world champion pacer and U.S. Horse of the Year, Confederate is widely regarded as the best son of Sweet Lou to date. His pedigree combines Sweet Lou’s explosive Artsplace/Abercrombie speed with the strength and depth of the Rocknroll Hanover – Western Hanover maternal family, creating a stallion who offers both brilliance and balance to breeders worldwide.

Crucially, Confederate’s pedigree is free of Cam Fella and Direct Scooter, making him an ideal outcross option for Australasia’s leading mare lines. This allows breeders to pair him confidently with the region’s most dominant bloodlines, Bettor’s Delight, Christian Cullen, Mach Three and Art Major families – without concern for duplication.

Bettor’s Delight & Cam Fella-Line Mares – The Proven Outcross

Like his sire Sweet Lou, Confederate is a natural outcross for Bettor’s Delight mares. This mating brings together two of the most influential pacing lines of the modern era – the strength and grit of Bettor’s Delight and the sheer speed and athleticism of Sweet Lou’s line. The result is a blend of toughness and brilliance that has already proven successful on the racetrack in both hemispheres.

Sweet Lou’s reputation as the “perfect outcross” for Bettor’s Delight daughters is well established, and Confederate carries that same advantage. Breeders can expect foals with exceptional gait, balance, and a strong desire to perform – the kind of individuals that excel early yet continue to improve with age.

Direct Scooter-Line Mares – Christian Cullen • Mach Three • In The Pocket

Confederate also crosses superbly with mares from the Direct Scooter line, particularly those by Christian Cullen, Mach Three, In The Pocket, and Courage Under Fire. These families have nicked exceptionally well with Sweet Lou, producing athletic, fast, and highly trainable stock in both North America and Australasia.

The combination of Sweet Lou’s outcross speed and the natural pacing ability of Direct Scooter-line mares is a proven formula for producing quick, gaited pacers with the strength to develop into genuine open-class horses. For breeders with Cullen or Mach Three blood, Confederate provides a perfect genetic fit to refresh and elevate these lines.

Western Hanover-Line Mares – American Ideal • Rocknroll Hanover • Western Ideal

Confederate’s own pedigree demonstrates the success of the Sweet Lou × A Rocknroll Dance cross, and it is no coincidence that this pattern has produced multiple elite performers, including Confederate and his stablemate Cannibal. Mares from the Western Hanover / No Nukes line, such as those by American Ideal, Rocknroll Hanover, Western Ideal, or Badlands Hanover – offer strong compatibility with Confederate.

This cross reinforces the proven power of the Western Hanover family while maintaining the outcross benefit of Sweet Lou’s Artsplace line. The foals are expected to inherit the physical strength, speed, and durability that have made this line one of the cornerstones of modern pacing pedigrees.

      Artsplace-Line Mares – Art Major • Artiscape • Sportswriter

Thoughtful linebreeding to Artsplace has long been a hallmark of successful modern pedigrees, and Confederate provides breeders with the opportunity to continue that pattern with balance and precision. Mares by Art Major, Artiscape, or Sportswriter pair beautifully with Confederate’s outcross background, reinforcing the best traits of the Artsplace influence – speed, stamina, and soundness – without overconcentration.

This cross is especially appealing for breeders aiming to produce foals with both racetrack potential and long-term broodmare or stallion value.

The Perfect Match for Australasian Mares

Confederate offers breeders across Australasia the rare combination of elite racetrack performance, clean outcross genetics and proven nicking patterns. His bloodlines complement the region’s most prevalent mare families – particularly Bettor’s Delight, Christian Cullen, and Mach Three, while introducing the freshness and brilliance of Sweet Lou’s speed and the maternal consistency of A Rocknroll Dance and Western Hanover.

From the foaling paddock to the sales ring and racetrack, Confederate’s progeny will carry forward his hallmark traits: speed, class, and an effortless gait. Backed by a world champion’s record and one of the most balanced pedigrees in the breed, Confederate stands ready to leave a lasting legacy on both sides of the equator.
